Katherine to Broome (Via The Gibb River Road)

The Victoria River District and Kimberley is a vast area, towns are few and far between. Our trip took us from Darwin through to Katherine where we would start the next part of our journey. We drove through Gregory National Park and got our first glimpse of the Katherine river.

Instead of our planned route on sealed roads we decided to take the Gibb River Road which is nearly 700km of unsealed road, some parts much rougher than others. This leg of our journey was a total distance of 1750km

Total Distance: 1750km

** Information from Wikipedia
This part of our journey took us back to Katherine from Dawrin. Our first night was spent on a campsite 50km outside of Katherine so we could make a start towards the WA border. This time we remembered to eat all our fruit and vegetables on board before reaching the border so that we didn’t have them taken away!

From the WA border we arrived in Kununurra where we stocked up with some essentials and headed out to the start of the Gibb River Road. We had decided that we wanted to take a more scenic route to Broome along this unsealed road. The corrugations were rough and then disaster struck, the wagon was having issues changing gear! It was a long drive from Mount Barnett Station to find help.

Our next stop was Derby and we headed onwards to Broome. The Jackaroos problems had mysteriously disappeared?!
