This leg of the journey ends in Kalgoorlie, a place that we are very interested in visiting. The first leg of the journey will take us from Perth, along the Great Eastern Highway that runs east west across the southern portion of Western Australia. From Kalgoorlie we will drop down to Norseman before starting the long drive across the Nullabor Plains.
The total distance covered during this part of the trip will be 784km in total. We have been warned of the usual stock on the roads at night.
“Kalgoorlie, known as Kalgoorlie-Boulder, is a town in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia, and is located 595 kilometres (370 mi) east-northeast of Perth at the end of the Great Eastern Highway. The town was founded in 1893 during the Yilgarn-Goldfields gold rush, and is located close to the so-called "Golden Mile".
