Port Augusta to Mount Isa (via the Birdsville Track)

By this point in our journey we were heading into much warmer weather so instead of taking the east coast and down the Birdsville Track we decided to head straight up from Port Augusta towards Marree again stopping off at Woomera to check out the rockets and missiles before tackling the 517km unsealed road which leads from Marree up to Birdsville South. From there we headed up to Boulia and finished up at Mount Isa. The total number of kilometres travelled on this stretch was 2287km

The Birdsville Track stretches 517km from Birdsville South to Marree and began as a droving route for cattle. Each September the Birdsville races attracts over 7000 people to it’s solitary pub.
