During this next part of the jouney we have travelled through the Savannah and into the tropics. Along the way we have seen lots of rainforest in the National Parks and plenty of colourful birds and wildlife as we made our way towards Cairns, stopping off at Boodjamulla National Park and Leichardt Falls along the way. Taking the Savannah Way and a slight detour through the Etheridge Shire we found ourselves in Chillagoe. Its been a long old trek on some rough ground.
The total distance covered on this stretch was 1760kms
It covers nearly 2820 sq km and boasts the most beautiful rainforest, gorges and spring fed creeks. Wildlife is abundant and a variety of native birds, turtles, fresh water fish and even freshwater crocodiles can be found here in the park.
