Malaysia - April to May 2016

Arrival in Kuala Lumpur

Our plans changed and instead of  going to Myanmar we booked a flight to Bangkok for an overnight stop and onwards to Kuala Lumpur. From the airport we took a local bus to Sentral and the monorail to Bukit Bintang where we spent a few days in a hotel right in the busy city centre. While we were here we visited the Petronus Towers and the huge glittering shopping centre. Although it wasn’t cheap, we took a trip to the top of the towers to get a view over the city! The weather took a turn for the worse so we ended up spending a lot of our time indoors. We took a train to China Town and had a look around there at all the stalls and the shops. During the evening we took the camera out to get some shots of the buildings all lit up, especially the towers.

Penang

From Kuala Lumpur we caught a train to Butterworth. It was probably the nicest trains we have ever been on and it was so comfortable! We arrived in Butterworth and walked to our guest house which was in Butterworth rather than across the water in Penang. By staying in Butterworth and catching the boat across the water to Penang everyday we saved a lot of money. In Penang we explored George Town and checked out the old buildings. We took a local bus to Penang Hill where we took a train to the top so we could get some decent views of Penang and Butterworth and the big bridge in between. While we were here we booked our flights to Medan in Northern Sumatra and started looking at jungle and volcano treks.
